Sailplane Towing

By towing the glider can be released much higher than with a winch. Where previously only a check-out was required for towing gliders, nowadays there is a rating for this. You can easily achieve this rating at Special Air Academy.

Hour requirements

For a Sailplane Towing Rating, the student pilot must have at least an LAPL(A) with 30 hours as a captain and 60 takeoffs and landings in aircraft. The training consists of:

  • minimum 4.5 hours of sailplane towing
  • at least 5.5 hours of ground instruction

The theory

The theory part for the Sailplane Towing Rating takes place during the practical training. No additional theory exams are required.

Validity

The Sailplane Towing Rating remains valid at all times. So this cannot expire.
